After the Supreme Court on Saturday, 9 November, delivered the long-awaited verdict in the Ayodhya title case, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe spoke about the judgment in an exclusive interview with The Quint’s Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia.

Sahasrabuddhe cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said this is not a matter of anyone’s win or loss but of justice. “And there’s one thing about justice – it should be delivered and it’s important that it is being seen when it’s delivered. And I believe the carefully thought words that the Honourable Supreme Court has used while delivering the judgment gives not just the feeling that justice is delivered but also gave an assessment of justice.”

When asked about the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992, Sahasrabuddhe said, “I will not comment on anything about the things that happened in 1949 because in some mysterious event, those idols were present there. But what happened in Ayodhya in 1992 was described as unfortunate. Everyone expressed regret about it.”

On the fact that the verdict was unanimous, Sahasrabuddhe said, “There is no different opinion on this. There were people with all kinds of thought and beliefs in it, believers in all faiths. So I would say that this is very concise and mature decision.”
