Peter in the Pan: Curtain Finally Falls on Bunty-Babli Act
Amidst bush-fire speculation, justice now seems nearing in the Sheena Bora murder case, writes Ravina Raj Kohli.
Part 1: Ek haseena thi. Sheena Bora. Missing for over three years. Maybe dead. Her sister, oops, Mom arrested. Tried to knock herself out. Step-Pa Number one arrested. Wore pillowcase on head. Driver arrested. No one cared. “Braader” came to Mumbai. Gave interviews. Went home. Yet another step-Pa ( do numbri) came on TV. Made many statements. Then did namaste to reporters. Vanished to Goa.
Big suitcase from Worli flat showcased. Some bones in Raigad discovered. DNA samples taken. Skull dressed up digitally. (Yippee it’s Sheena!) Top cop on case transferred. CBI takes over. Many maarder theories. Much debate. Many writings. Many writhings. Many jokes. Justice be damned. A dead woman gets little respect and seemingly no justice. Snooze. We lose.
Breaking News. And part 2 begins.
It’s All About Money
Bechara Peter. Rahul Gandhi toh bore hai. Modiji to kuch aur hai. Who cares about the country when we can have a salacious sexy story? What highly ‘pounce-worthy’ news. I am so glad so many lawyers were on air at the news of the arrest and tried to decode the truth that no one yet knows. What exactly is Peter in for? The money or the honey? Section 201. Accha.
Peters’ arrest may be the most significant part of the next part of the Sheena Bora murder case and it may well be the most irrelevant. Who knows? The point is, that Indrani Mataji’s, the pillowcase wala Papaji’s and the faceless driverji’s bail was up for grabs and the CBI grabbed it. I like it. “Good stragedy” as we say in the south. And why not?
I said on First Day, First Show, when asked what this whole ‘thing-a-me while I thinger-you’ was about, that this was about the money. And the second step-Papaji, aka Shri Mukerjea knew more than he cared to let on. No one really loves no one when you stand to lose so many zeros from your bank balance if you tell the truth. He probably knew a lot but didn’t want to know anything.
Unless you choose to, you don’t share a home with someone and not sense that your spouse is a bit off the wall about something, specially when your aadhi-gharwaali and favourite ‘saali’ who your jowls go into a gleam about has vanished into thin air. That some say she was your ‘to be bahurani’ is ho-hum detail. And really, who cares what this Rahul beta thinks either? He’s not even a Gandhi.
Justice for Sheena
How eerie. And how convenient. So blind in love. Is that why those who now say that Mukerjea Papaji allegedly had no clothes in the ‘home’ in Spain this summer and though there was a ‘child’ at home, there allegedly wasn’t much edible stuff in Mataji’s fridge? Was Papajea keeping his distance from patnijea with brat-babyjea in tow?
So Peter is arrested. Why am I not surprised. Whatever may be the outcome of the CBI investigation, I am just so glad that we are starting to have some breakthroughs in solving some horrific deaths and alleged murders we are forced to live with. (Sunanda didn’t die of pollonium poisoning. Phew. Finally!) Could this lead to a perceptible shift in justice being done (or at least seen to be done) sooner rather than later? I just wish we could feel as turned on and tuned on about so many other crimes that need to be solved. No one deserves to be killed and forgotten in a pile of egos and corruption and media amnesia. If the CBI continues to find answers at this pace and act at this rate, we may have to request Priyanka in Quantico to move out of the FBI and do a ghar waapsi. We could learn a special effect or two here.
Meanwhile, I am intrigued at the ‘evidence’ Mikhail Bora brought to Mr Maria before he was banished into the sunset. Alleged incriminating photographs and mysterious boarding passes, if the media gossip mills are to be believed. For all you know they may be photos of happy family holidays and flight evidence of Mummy, Papa, Beti and Beta taking selfies as Behenji, Jijaji, Masiji, Bhaanji and err yet another potential Jijaji named Mukerjea.
What matters most is that Sheena was murdered. And she must get justice. I don’t care who goes to jail for it. Just let it be the right persons.
