The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, 29 June, handed over the investigation of Jammu Air Force Station attack case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Two low-intensity explosions had been reported in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station on Sunday. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh has said that it is suspected that a drone was used to drop the explosive material.

Previously, multiple agencies, including the local police, Air Force authorities, National Security Guard and NIA, had been probing into the first-of-its-kind terror attack involving suspected drone employment.

A special bomb squad team of the NSG is looking into the nature of explosion that occurred at the IAF station. The security force suspects the usage of RDX or TNT in the blast, news agency ANI reported.

The agencies have been looking into the possibility of drones having been launched from nearby locations. Preliminary investigations suggest that the drones had been manoeuvred from across the border, ANI reported, citing sources. The involvement of a local handler is also being probed.

Drones were reportedly also sighted near the Army institutions in the city.

Blasts in Jammu's IAF Station

The IAF reported that the blasts had caused no major damage.

One of the explosions slightly impaired the roof of a building, while the other explosion took place in an open area.

No equipment was reported to be damaged.

Calling the incident at the IAF station a “terror attack”, Singh had said that the police is investigating, along with other agencies.

Further, Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered an FIR under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
