President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, officially making J&K and Ladakh Union Territories on Friday, 9 August.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs said that Pakistan's suspension of operation of the Samjhauta Express was "a unilateral decision", adding that it has been done without consulting India.

Meanwhile, after five days of a continued lockdown in the Valley post the Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370, DGP SP Vaid told AFP that the curfew will be eased for Friday prayers.

J&K Govt Shifts 20 More 'Troublemakers' From Kashmir to Agra Jail

The Jammu and Kashmir authorities airlifted a fresh batch of 20 "potential troublemakers" from Srinagar to Agra, officials said on Friday.

The people, who have a history of being involved in separatist activities, were taken out of Kashmir Valley in a special Indian Air Force plane, they said.

They are alleged to be active members of separatist groups in Kashmir Valley.

They were taken in a special IAF plane to Uttar Pradesh and lodged in Agra Central Jail, PTI reported.

'Have Sufficient Stock of Petrol, Diesel and LPG': J&K Guv

Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Friday, said he visited various hospitals and public places in the state and reviewed the availability of basic amenities.

"We have two months stock of ration. There is sufficient stock of petrol, diesel and regular supply for LPG,” Malik said, adding that arrangements have been made for Eid celebrations.

Petition Filed in SC Against Presidential Order Effectively Revoking Article 370

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Presidential Order by which Article 370 was scrapped in Jammu and Kashmir, and also sought direction to declare it illegal and unconstitutional, ANI reported.

The petition has been filed by a Kashmiri lawyer, Shakir Shabir, who has sought direction for government to prevent all forms of human rights violation and exercise constrain bile dealing with the bonafide citizens of the nation.
