On the 30th anniversary of the Hashimpur Massacre, The Quint travelled to the area in Meerut district to speak to the families of the victims.

The Hashimpura massacre of 22 May 1987 claimed the lives of 42 men, all of whom are believed to have been Muslims. The alleged perpetrators of the incident were members of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).

PAC members allegedly forced around 45 men into their truck and took them to secluded spots – the Upper Ganga canal close to Muradnagar and subsequently the Hindon canal of Makanpur. Here, the perpetrators shot the victims and threw their bodies into the canals.
