While Section 377 criminalises homosexuality and society shuns the LGBTQ community, a couple have defied those constraints, celebrating their love.

Photographer Priyam Malhotra got the opportunity to do the unconventional shoot and The Quint spoke to him about it in detail.

Priyam Malhotra is a Delhi-based wedding photographer. He got in touch with the couple through UrbanClap, who was doing a campaign for the LGBTQ community, and Malhotra wanted to help.

When asked about the shoot itself, he said it was a little challenging given the theme of the shoot. But the couple was very supportive of his ideas and he used lights, shadows and all colours of the rainbow to build the frames.

Capturing the essence of their relationship was hard to do given the novel theme. However, he conceptualised the frames in such a way that they does not give away the identity of the couple, but don’t hide it either, striking the perfect balance.

They weren’t apprehensive but were looking forward to the shoot.

Given the theme of the shoot and the stigma attached with the community, Priyam said that even though there are shots which have some passersby in them, he faced no obstruction from them during the course of the shoot.

The shoot was done in the early hours of the day in Delhi. All the graffiti with colours of the pride flag accentuated the emotion behind the shoot.

Love may not be winning in the courtroom, but in this photoshoot, it definitely has.
