Being active on social media means that you are always connected to people. You can ask for advice and gain knowledge from the testimonials of your peer groups. This acts like a life raft for a new parent for whom all the experiences are new and overwhelming. While new parents read a lot of books that give a plethora of suggestions and recommendations for parenthood, there isn’t any comparison to recommendations from your friends and peers. When you browse through the comments on the online parenting groups, you realize that there are parents in the same boat as yours.

Talking About the Taboos

The online platform provides a space for parents to address the age-old norms. One of them being breastfeeding in public. There is an ongoing need to sensitize the public and create spaces for mothers to be able to comfortably breastfeed their babies without being judged. Mothers also feel pressurized about going back to their routine post pregnancy. There is a looming thought about weight gain and inability to fit into old clothes. Reading articles and blogs via Facebook and chatting on Reddit, helps confront and offer solutions to these societal demands.
