Archaeologists have unearthed caves carved beneath a mosque that could be one of the largest of their kind in Turkey.

Still widely unexplored, officials and historians say the Nevşehir underground city may rival the neighbouring Derinkuyu, which could have housed around 20,000 settlers during the Byzantine era.
