The Indian Navy recruitment drive at INS Hamla 4 SSR in Mumbai on Friday met with an overwhelming response which soon led to a stampede.

Four aspirants were inured after a stampede broke out at a Navy recruitment drive in Mumbai. The incident took place early on Friday morning, when the gates of the recruitment venue in Malad were thrown open to a milling crowd of about 50,000.

Sensing trouble, local police reached the spot and reportedly lathi-charged the crowd. At least four persons were injured in the scuffle, raising the tempers of the already distraught youths.

Many aspirants complained that the recruiters had misled them on the selection criteria. They alleged that newspaper advertisements had only mentioned a higher secondary degree as the qualifying cut. Later, the authorities changed the cut-off to 60% leaving several aspirants disgruntled.
