Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lied to the nation about implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme and asked the government to apologise for the police’s manhandling of the family of ex-soldier Ram Kishan Grewal, who ended his life over the non-implementation of the pension scheme.

Gandhi told the media here that he met some 80 ex-servicemen and "they said that what Modiji is calling OROP is only pension enhancement."

"Narendra Modiji you should stop lying and work to implement OROP," the Congress leader said.

"If you have implemented OROP, why are they protesting at Jantar Mantar. The truth is that the government of India has not implemented it."

He alleged that the family members of Grewal "were beaten and dragged."

"This is not right. No government should ever do this to its people, not to talk about soldiers who give their lives for the nation. The government must apologise," he added.
