An IPS officer, serving as superintendent of police of Bengaluru Rural, has found himself in the middle of controversy after a software engineer lodged a complaint against him alleging that he was having an affair with his wife.

The 40-year-old engineer, a resident of Davanagere, lodged his complaint with the Koramangala police station on 5 July. The complainant also furnished a video as evidence allegedly showing the police officer – Bheemashankar S Guled – and his wife together. The complainant alleged that Guled coerced his wife into providing him sexual favours, and that "she obliged out of fear," reported The Times of India.

On the other hand, the Times of India reported that the complainant’s wife had told a news channel that the video was fake. As per a Deccan Chronicle report, the woman claimed that she had been living separately from her husband for a few months now. The daily also quotes sources as saying that she is mulling lodging a case against her husband.

The complainant told The Times of India that his wife met the officer at her photography and graphic design studio in Davanagere in October 2016. "Guled was our first customer as he approached my wife to shoot his twin daughters' birthday. Later, he began forcing her, seeking sexual favours," he told the daily.

Speaking to the daily, Guled categorically refuted the accusations.

The police have reportedly taken up the case as one involving a non-cognisable offence under Section 497 (Adultery) of the Indian Penal Code. However, they will be approaching the court for permission before filing an FIR in the matter.
