The controversy around the film Padmaavat has spiralled out of control and doesn’t seem like it’ll end anytime soon, even after the film releases. Rajputs have taken to the streets across different parts of the state, blocking highways, vandalising state transport buses, and pelting stones at cinemas and multiplexes, despite the fact that cinemas in the state have decided not to screen the film.
Many, including Bollywood celebs, feel that the matter had been blown out of proportion and that the Supreme Court’s order that the film be allowed to release should be adhered to, without violence.
While many agreed that Rajputs did have a right to object, they were clear on the view that violence was not a means to that end.
Moviegoers who gathered to watch the special screening said that they will treat it as a cinema and will pay no heed to controversy. They said that an artist’s work should be treated as an artwork and be appreciated. Many also did not want to talk about the controversy but only the movie. Just before entering the cinema hall, they said that they expect a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie to be ‘Magic’.
People coming out of cinema theatres said that they liked the movie and it will be a hit despite all the controversy.
They also said that there are no objectionable elements in the movie that would hurt Rajput sentiments.
