With an aim to boost the sporting spirit of the girls in Ladakh, the Ladakh Woman Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) has organised an ice hockey and ice skating training camp free of cost in the Guphuks Pounds near Spituk Village.

The programme that spreads over a period of 10 days from 1 January to 10 January provides free coaching for over 110 girls from different parts of the region.

A member of the Ladakh Hockey Foundation says that the objective of the training is to boost the morality of the girls in the region and to make them realise that their potential is at par with the boys.

This training is especially for girls. To give them the opportunity to be treated equally. Very few girls participate in ice skating. The objective is to tell the girls that they have the potential to skate as well. This camp will also make them realise that they are equally capable as the boys. The girls are participating in great numbers.

During the training camp, equipment and skates are provided free of cost to the participants. The LWIHF committee has been organising ice skating and ice hockey competition since its inception in 2015.

Notably, the women playing for different clubs in Leh orchestrated Ladakh Women’s Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) in 2015 to promote and provide a chance for the girls in the region.
