Crisis within the AIADMK deepened early on Wednesday, as party chief VK Sasikala vowed to expel rebel leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam from all party posts. Waving at supporters outside her Poes Garden home in Chennai, Sasikala sought to assure cadres that she alone enjoyed the support of all MLAs, who she said were united under one banner.

Draped in a green saree, much like her long time friend and former party matriarch J Jayalalithaa, Sasikala launched a scathing attack on OPS, accusing him of conspiring with rival DMK.

We will certainly remove him. During the four-day Assembly session, Panneerselvam was caught smiling at the DMK’s Stalin.

Earlier, senior party leader M Thambidurai backed Sasikala as he emerged out of a late-night meeting attended by 134 lawmakers. Lashing out at OPS, a miffed Thambidurai declared that the CM had betrayed the party, and was too ‘unstable’ to head the government.
