Raje Govt Institutionalising Corruption: Sachin Pilot on Ordinance

Congress leader Sachin Pilot lashed out at the Vasundhara Raje-led Rajasthan government on Saturday for passing an ordinance, which shields both serving and former judges, magistrates and public servants in the states from being investigated regarding on-duty action without its prior sanction.

We are absolutely shocked by the way the government is trying to institutionalise corruption... It shows the mindset. They are not willing to stand up against corruption.

The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance 2017, promulgated on 7 September, also puts a bar on the media from reporting the accusations till the sanction to proceed with the probe is obtained.

"No magistrate shall order an investigation nor will any investigation be conducted against a person, who is or was a judge or a magistrate or a public servant," reads the ordinance which will be in force for 6 months.

Regarding the ordinance, Pilot, who is a former Member of Parliament from Ajmer constituency further, asserted:

It smacks of nepotism. We will oppose this not just in the assembly but also on the streets.
