Addressing a campaign rally in Karnataka’s Udupi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress-run government in the state of believing in ‘ease of murder’ over ‘ease of business’.

The government is talking about enhancing ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in the country, but Congress believes in ‘Ease of Doing Murder’. This is the culture they have developed.

The prime minister also condemned the “increasing violence against BJP workers” in Karnataka, stating that “violence could not exist in a democracy”.

Violence cannot exist in a democracy. It is shameful how BJP Karyakartas were murdered in Karnataka. The Congress must answer on increasing crimes.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister had quipped that a pro-BJP "storm" was sweeping Karnataka, launching the party's election campaign in Chamarajanagar district for the upcoming Assembly election.

"We hear in Delhi that there is a BJP wave in Karnataka. But as I see it, it's not just a wave but a storm," thundered Modi, addressing hundreds in Santhemarahalli village, about 170 km south of Bengaluru.

Modi's speech was translated simultaneously into Kannada, a first since his visits to the southern state over the past few months.

"(BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate) BS Yeddyurappa is the hope for Karnataka and he will soon be chosen as the chief minister," said Modi.

After the Udupi rally, Modi will also address rallies on Tuesday in Belagavi district.
