After a car carrying the Unnao rape survivor and her family collided with a truck on Sunday, 29 July, near Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli, many have demanded a CBI probe into the matter, refusing to see it as an accident. Here is what happened:

- The Unnao woman, who levelled rape accusations against BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, was critically injured on Sunday, 28 July, in a car-truck collision near Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli.
- She was travelling with her two aunts, who died in the collision, and advocate Mahendra Singh, who remains critical.
- All of them were on their way to meet her uncle who is lodged in the Raebareli jail.
- According to eyewitnesses, the truck hit the car. UP Police on Monday said that the truck was traveling from Banda to Fatehpur.
- The driver and the owner of the truck have been arrested. The survivor’s mother and uncle have alleged that it is a conspiracy by the accused and his men.
- ADG Rajeev Krishna on Monday said that the UP Police is ready for a CBI probe into the matter. They have called it an accident and said the forensic team is probing the case.
- The number plate of the truck was scrubbed off with black grease, which raised suspicion. However, the police said the truck drivers usually blacken it to avoid getting in trouble with the Road Transport Office in cases of overloading.
- The survivor and her family is usually accompanied by gunners; however, no security personnel was present with the survivor during the collision.
- DGP OP Singh said the security personnel were absent due to lack of space in the car and that the survivor had requested them to not accompany her.
- The Opposition demanded a CBI probe in the matter and the Rajya Sabha witnessed an uproar over the same on Monday.
