Four Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were killed in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Kanker on Thursday, 4 April.
Two other personnel were injured in the encounter, PTI cited the police as saying.
According to the BSF, the domination patrol of 114 Battalion deployed in Pakhanjur, Kanker, was targeted by Naxals with IEDs and firing around 11:45 am on Thursday.
Maoists have also suffered casualties, the BSF statement added.
Deeply Anguished, Says Rajnath Singh
Reacting to the loss of lives in the encounter, Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “Deeply anguished by the loss of BSF personnel during an operation against the Naxals in Kanker. They fought valiantly before laying down their lives for the nation. My deepest condolences to the families of these martyrs and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Polling in the Kanker Lok Sabha constituency will be held in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, on 18 April.
