The Quint’s ‘Talking Stalking’ Wins Big At WAN-IFRA Awards

The Quint's 'Talking Stalking' campaign started after the Chandigarh car stalking case in August 2017. When the accused in the case were let out on bail despite severe allegations against them, we started looking at the efficacy of the stalking law in the country.

Stalking in India is still a bailable offence. As a result, the survivors are often unsure of reporting it because chances are that the stalker will come back and harm the survivor further. When an offence is bailable, the accused has to furnish no proof to defend himself or herself. Thus the process usually agonizes the accused further risking the life of the survivor.

Thus, we rolled out a campaign to make stalking a non-bailable offence. We found an ally in MP Dr Shashi Tharoor who presented a private member's to make stalking a non-bailable offence, bill co-drafted with The Quint.

The AAP too has passed a resolution to make stalking a non-bailable offence in the Delhi state.

On 5 June, 2019, The Quint’s ‘Talking Stalking’ won the third prize at the Wan Ifra World Digital media conference for ‘Innovation to Engage Youth Audiences’ category.

The ‘Talking Stalking’ campaign clinched a Gold in the Best Innovation to Engage Youth Audiences category at the South Asian Digital Media Awards 2018 by WAN-IFRA in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 26 September. Apart from this, we also won 4 awards in several other categories.
