1. Governor NN Vohra Meets Officers, Security Forces in Srinagar

President Ram Nath Kovind approved the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect on Wednesday, 20 June, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s pull-out from its three-year-long alliance with the People’s Democratic Party.

Following this, J&K Governor NN Vohra held a meeting with administrative officers and security forces after Governor’s Rule was imposed in the Valley.

Speaking to the media, former J&K deputy CM Kavinder Gupta said the state is unlikely to get a new government anytime soon. In response to this, National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah slammed Gupta’s comments and hinted that the BJP might resort to horse trading for government formation in the Valley.

He also refuted reports of a possible alliance with the PDP, and said that he had not met any PDP MLA in that regard.

2. Thank You, Arvind Subramanian, I’ll Miss You: Arun Jaitley

India’s Chief Economic Advisor, Arvind Subramanian, has reportedly stepped down from the position, on account of “pressing family commitments”.

Subramanian had assumed the role back in 2014, and following the end of his three-year term in 2017, it was extended for another year, based on the recommendation of Union Minister Arun Jaitley.

3. World Refugee Day: Refugees on the Items They Couldn’t Leave Behind

How would you decide what to leave behind, within the borders that once defined you, and what to take, as you set out on a perilous journey?

Will you take the house keys, as a souvenir of the place you once called home? Will you pack the family photographs, to remind you of happier times? What about the certificates and papers that document your life? Will you take those lovingly embroidered pillow cases? What will you leave behind?

Refugees carry a part of their homes in their bags when they cross borders. These items tell the story of lives cut short, of identities, of home. On World Refugee Day, we speak about the strength, courage and perseverance that Refugees across the world have to exhibit on a daily basis.

We ask some families what they took with them when they were forced to flee their homes.

4. Virushka or Arhhan Singh? Whose Side Are You On?

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s recent activism against garbage on the streets of Mumbai has social media divided over the fact whether they should have showed the man’s face or not in the video, where she is seen yelling at him.

The man recognised as Arhhan Singh is a resident of Mumbai who also took to social media where he did ‘NOT’ apologise but fired back at the star couple for their approach towards him.

Since then, he has received a lot of hate from Virushka fans on social media. What he clearly does not understand is the fact that nobody is on his side. The argument is about his face showing and a little politeness from the couple.

So, who is in the right?

5. Is Modi Government Doing Enough to Bring Nirav Modi Back?

The CBI has expedited the process to issue a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against absconding diamantaire Nirav Modi after it became known that he had travelled to multiple countries on a revoked Indian passport.

Interpol is likely to issue the RCN against Modi within a week, said Abhishek Dayal, CBI spokesperson.

The CBI had requested Interpol to issue an RCN on 14 May 2018, after the chargesheet was filed against Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi.

But is our investigating agency doing enough to bring back the fugitive who has managed to dodge the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for almost six months?

Till now, the CBI and the ED have been clueless about Modi’s whereabouts while he’s country-hopping on a revoked passport. Clearly, there are glaring gaps in our system that are keeping Modi from facing trail in court.
