1. Saifuddin Soz Says Kashmir Wants Independence, BJP Slams Congress

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Saifuddin Soz on Friday, 22 June, said former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf was right that Kashmiris wanted independence over joining Pakistan, reported ANI.

Musharraf said Kashmiris don’t want to merge with Pakistan... their first choice is independence. The statement was true then and remains true now also. I say the same but I know that it is not possible.

2. Bank With Amit Shah as Director Collected Most Banned Notes: RTI

A district cooperative bank, which has Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah as a director, netted the highest deposits among such banks of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes that were abruptly demonetised on 8 November 2016, according to RTI replies received by a Mumbai activist.

The Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank (ADCB) secured deposits of Rs 745.59 crore of the spiked notes in just five days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the demonetisation announcement.

3. Armed Men Kidnap, Gang-rape 5 Anti-Trafficking Activists in Jharkhand

Five women working with an NGO were allegedly raped at gunpoint by a group of at least five men when they had gone to Chochang village in Jharkhand to create awareness on migration and human trafficking.

According to Ranchi Range Deputy Inspector General AV Homkar, who was quoted by Hindustan Times, the women were abducted by armed men when they were performing a street play at RC Mission School in Khunti.

They were then allegedly driven to a secluded place and gang-raped.

4. ‘Will Die to Save Cows’: Lynching Exposes Fault Lines in Hapur

“If police implicates our husbands in false cases, we women will go and protect our cows. We can sacrifice our lives for gau raksha,” says Santosh Sisodia, as the other women gathered in her courtyard nod along in agreement.

Santosh’s husband, Rakesh Sisodia, is one of the two men who were arrested on charges of lynching 39-year-old Qasim and critically injuring 65-year-old Samiuddin in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh.

Rakesh and Yudhisthir Singh were arrested on the basis of an FIR filed at the Pilkhuwa police station by Samiuddin’s brother, Yasin.
