1. Triple Talaq Bill Tabled in Lok Sabha; Owaisi Says It Lacks Legal Coherence

A Bill to criminalise triple talaq, an Islamic practise that allows husbands to instantly divorce their wives, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, 28 December.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill was tabled by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. "We are creating history today. This law is for women's rights and justice and not regarding any prayer, ritual or religion," Prasad said in the Lok Sabha.

However, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi opposed the Bill sharply.

This Bill violates fundamental rights and lacks legal coherence. Muslims were not consulted before tabling the Bill.

Before the Parliament session on Thursday, Congress leader Salman Khurshid had criticised the criminality clause in the Bill.

2. ‘Constitution Is Supreme’: Hegde Apologises After Secularism Row

Minister of State for Skill Development Anantkumar Hegde apologised on Thursday, 28 December, for his earlier remark mocking secularism and describing secular people as "those who do not have an identity of their parental blood.” His comments drew strong criticism from the Congress, which led to disruptions in both Houses of Parliament on 27 December.

Hegde apologised for his earlier remarks, in which he suggested that the word ‘secular’ be removed from the Indian Constitution. “The Parliament and the Constitution are supreme to me,” he said.

I deeply respect the Constitution, Parliament and Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The Constitution is supreme for me, there can be no question on it, and as a citizen, I can never go against it.

3. Pak Turned Jadhav Meeting His Family into Propaganda: MEA Swaraj

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday, 28 December, addressed Parliament about the meeting that former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav had with his wife and mother in Pakistan.

Swaraj called the meeting a “propaganda tool” by Pakistan.

The women were asked to remove their bangles, mangalsutra, and bindis as Pakistan cited “security reasons.”

Jadhavji’s mother, who only wears a sari, was forced to wear salwar kurta. Not just his wife, but the bindi and mangalsutra of his mother were also removed. Both the married women were made to look like widows.

4. Virat Kohli Talks About Mission South Africa & Marriage to Anushka

Winning Test matches outside the subcontinent has been an 'Achilles Heel' for the Indian team over the years, but skipper Virat Kohli made it clear that they have "nothing to prove to anyone" during the upcoming South Africa series.

Asked how difficult it was for him to return to cricket post the three-week break he took for his marriage, Kohli replied: “Not difficult at all, it was away for something (marriage) which is much more important. That is a period that will always remain special for the both of us.”

Switching back to cricket is not difficult at all because it is in my blood, like it is for every other team member and the team management as well. So, getting back to professional front is not difficult at all.

5. Rajinikanth’s Entry to Politics be Like..

There's no doubt that Rajinikanth will be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Really!

It's just that no one knows when. He said it in 1992 in a movie (Annamalai), and then in 1995, he admitted to meeting PV Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister, in what was more than ‘just a courtesy.’

Recently, he said he will announce the decision on 31 December. But, he has said he is going to enter politics a hundred times! So, no one knows what's going to happen next.

Watch the meme until then, and listen to the wisdom of the women at home, generation wise!
