1. CWG 2018 | Day 6: India Bags Two Medals

While India has been on a medal-winning streak at the 2018 Commonwealth games, Day 6 saw the country bag only two medals. One of these was due to the exceptional efforts of Heena Sidhu,who won the gold for the 25 m pistol event. Her score of 38 in the final is also a new Commonwealth Games record.

Additionally, this is her second medal at the 2018 Games held in Gold Coast.

Sachin Chaudhary was the other medallist of the day, claiming the bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight event of para powerlifting.

2. UP Govt’s ‘Saffron’ Ambedkar Statue Painted Blue by BSP Leader

The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, 9 April, installed a saffron painted statue of Babasaheb BR Ambedkar in a Badaun village, unlike the usual blue.

The statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution in Dugraiyya village, which was vandalised on Saturday, was replaced with this new one.

The new statue from Agra was unveiled in the presence of district police officers.

However, a day after it was installed, the statue was painted back to its original blue colour by BSP leader Himendra Gautam.

3. Unnao BJP MLA’s Brother Held for Death of Rape Survivor’s Father

A day after the father of the Unnao rape survivor died in jail, the brother of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, against whom the survivor’s family has levelled allegations of rape, has been arrested.

Atul Singh, his brother, was arrested by the police in connection with the death of the survivor’s father. Three other persons were also arrested in connection with the case.

Addressing a press briefing after the arrests, the ADG Law and Order Anand Kumar said that an SIT had been formed to probe the case. Elaborating on the post-mortem report, Kumar also said that the woman’s father had died of internal bleeding caused by a ‘colon perforation’.

The woman had earlier claimed her family had received death threats in the past, accusing the MLA of killing her father. Meanwhile, the BJP MLA in response said: "They are low-status people (“nimn star ke log hain”)... This is a conspiracy by my opponents.” However, he refused to comment on speculation about him being summoned by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

4. PM Modi Flags off Champaran Humsafar Express Train in Motihari

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 10 April, flagged off the Humsafar Express train between Katihar, Bihar and Old Delhi and laid the foundation of a track-doubling project in Bihar.

The prime minister was in Motihari to attend an event to mark 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran Satyagraha with an aim to spread the message of Swachh Bharat.

He laid the foundation stone of a project for doubling of Muzzafarpur-Sagauli (100.6 km) and Sagauli-Valmikinagar sections (109.7 km), flagged off the first-run of the Champaran Humsafar Express between Katihar and Old Delhi and the first 1200 hp freight electric locomotive assembled at the Madhepura factory.

5. It’s Confirmed, Sony TV Has Shut Down Kapil Sharma’s Show

After airing only 3 episodes, Sony TV has now decided to pull the plug on Kapil Sharma’s new show, Family Time With Kapil Sharma. According to sources, the decision was finally taken by the channel on Monday because of the comedian and actor’s unprofessional attitude.

An abusive phone call recently made by Kapil Sharma threatening an entertainment journalist, which was made public, is also reportedly one of the reasons why the channel has taken the final call to scrap Kapil’s show.
