Despite the Supreme Court staying the ban on Padmaavat in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat and Rajasthan, the controversy surrounding the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is far from over.

Members of the Karni Sena and other Rajput organisations protesting the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Padmaavat’ have been vandalising properties like cinema theatres and malls across the country.

The officer in-charge said that around a dozen protesters were detained and a case was lodged after examining the CCTV footage.

The protesters were from the Karni Sena, Rajput Uthan Samiti, Kshatriya Sabha among others from Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Hapur and nearby areas, he said.

Some multiplexes and single-screen cinemas in Gujarat would not be screening Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film ‘Padmaavat’ fearing violence, owners said on Sunday.

The owner of Wide Angle Multiplex, which has theatres in Ahmedabad city and Mehasana, said it will not screen the film till the dispute between the Rajput community leaders and the film producers is resolved.

While protests against the film continued in several parts of the state, multiplex owners' association of Rajkot said they won't screen the film either.

The Supreme Court has stayed the orders/notifications issued by the Rajasthan and Gujarat governments prohibiting the screening of ‘Padmaavat.’

The film, initially titled ‘Padmavati’, was slated for release on 1 December last year but was postponed as the makers were yet to get a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
