In a dramatic turn of events following the Karnataka Assembly results, the Congress and JD(S) alliance had the last laugh, despite the BJP emerging as the single largest party. This was an outcome of the Supreme Court hearing the Congress’ petition post midnight.

I received phone calls as soon as I reached Chandigarh. Most of the job was done over telephonic conversations. Unfortunately, the Chandigarh airport was shut around that time. Neither chartered or commercial flights could land there. By 2:00 pm we figured out that Pinjaur was a convenient airport and a flight was arranged. By 8:00 pm, we prepared 2-3 drafts. Later we had an inkling that the Governor was not going to invite us and then the draft was modified for a third time. The Supreme Court realised the urgency of the matter and decided to hear the matter post midnight.
