The National Capital Region woke up to heavy rains accompanied with thunder, lightning and hailstorm on Tuesday, 22 January.

As a result, commuters were forced to wade through waterlogged roads and face traffic congestion.

Heavy water-logging was reported from Tilak Bridge, Modi Mill Flyover, Dhaula Kuan flyover, Minto bridge, Sultanpur and Ghitorni road. Traffic congestion at Zakhira Flyover, Anand Parbat, Y-Point Old Railway bridge Kishan Ganj and Azad Market added to commuters’ woes.

AQI Improves from ‘Very Poor’ to ‘Poor’

The heavy downpour brought respite from the thick smog. Delhi’s air quality index improved from ‘very poor’ to ‘poor’. Major pollutants PM 2.5 went down to 220 and PM 10 went down to 232.

Thanks to the the heavy rainfall and appreciable increase in the wind speed, the air quality index of the national capital is expected to improve further.
