The Allahabad High Court on Thursday acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj in 2008, saying they could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record.

The Quint spoke to the Meghna Gulzar, director of the movie ‘Talvar’ that was based on the incident.

It’s a huge victory for justice and the truth. But even in this victory, there is a void. Aarushi is not coming back. Those years that they have lost are not coming back. But the fact that they have been exonerated... is what they have been fighting for. Not for themselves but to ensure that their daughter’s memory isn’t maligned in her death.

The verdict ends a nine-year ordeal of the parents who were found guilty by a CBI court of murdering 14-year-old Aarushi.
