Afghanistan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani on Monday attended the 2nd meeting of the India-Afghanistan Strategic Partnership Council that he co-chaired with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj.

Rabbani clarified in a statement Afghanistan’s friendship with India or any other country does not mean hostility with others in their neighbourhood.

He said that Afghanistan is a landlocked country whose peace and prosperity relies on those of its neighbours, near and extended.

Rabbani put emphasis on cross-border terrorism, which is threatening both India and Afghanistan and destabilising the region.

Afghanistan strongly and openly supports India’s bid for permanent membership of UNSC and we believe that it will do the same in our bid for SEO membership.

WIth a positive response, Sushma Swaraj agreed that New Delhi's friendship with Kabul is an article of faith, and the country has a spiritual and civilisation connection with India.
