US First Lady Michelle Obama has slammed Donald Trump after a video of the Republican presidential nominee having a lewd conversation with a journalist came up. In the conversation, Trump hinted at indulging in sexual harassment of women he met by taking advantage of his celebrity status.

Campaigning for Trump’s opponent Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, the First Lady took offence on the obscene language by Trump. She called the Republican presidential nominee's language disgraceful and intolerable. She said that it should outrage all, regardless of political affiliation. She said he was bragging about sexually assaulting women.

On the other hand, President Barack Obama targeted Republicans for waiting this long to speak up against Trump. Obama said most Republicans aren't like Trump and "know better", but hadn't renounced the kind of rhetoric Trump embraces out of deference to the Republican base.

He said it was GOP complacency that had led the party to nominate a candidate who he said brags and jokes about sexually assaulting women.

Obama's remarks illustrated how Democrats are seeking to prevent Republicans from saving face by rejecting Trump at the last minute.
