2. Saroj Khan Backs Casting Couch, Says ‘At least’ Film Industry Gives Jobs

Speaking at a press conference recently, veteran choreographer Saroj Khan not only accepted the existence of ‘casting couch’ in the film industry, but also defended it. The three time National Award winner, who has choreographed over 2,000 songs in Hindi films, began her argument by stating that casting couch (ie demanding sexual favours in exchange of a job) was not a recent practice but has been going on from the beginning of time.

Saroj Khan was responding to a question relating to Telugu actor Sri Reddy’s act of stripping to protest the culture of casting couch.

Saroj Khan stated that almost everyone tries to take advantage of women, including government officials, so why are people attacking the film industry. Saroj further defended the practice of seeking sexual favours in the film industry by saying that at least the casting couch ensures that you get to earn a livelihood, it is not as if you are raped and abandoned.

3. Congress Won’t Hide If Hands Tainted With Muslims’ Blood: Khurshid

Speaking at an event at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Congress senior leader Salman Khurshid said that if the party has blood on its hands, then it will show these stains so that others can learn from its mistakes.

Soon after, the former External Affairs Minister took to Twitter to express his anguish on being ‘misinterpreted’ by the media.

Khurshid’s initial statement had come in response to a question raised by a former student of the university, who asked the senior Congress leader what would he say about his party’s involvement in various riots that happened in Uttar Pradesh during its regime. The student implied that the party had blood of the minority community on its hands.
