1. SC Recognises 'Living Will' by Terminally-ill Patients For Passive Euthanasia

In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court on Friday recognised 'living wills' made by terminally-ill patients for passive euthanasia.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra said passive euthanasia and advance living wills are "permissible".

The apex court said that advance directives for terminally-ill patients could be issued and executed by the next friend or relative of such persons, after which a medical board would consider it.

The top court said that directions and guidelines laid down by it and its directive shall remain in force till legislation is brought on the issue.

2. BCCI’s New Player Contracts – Mithali Raj Handed a Bad Deal

The BCCI announced new contracts for its cricketers and the new system has more grades (four, compared to the three earlier) and more money (a max grade of Rs 7 crore, compared to the Rs 2 crore earlier).

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are named in the new A+ grade and will receive Rs 7 crore a year.

A better deal for women players was on the cards, but a quick look at the men/women retainers highlights the staggering disparity in value. Mithali Raj is to receive 50 lakhs now (previous figure 15 lakhs) which is great, but compared to Axar Patel's Rs 1 crore retainer, it is scandalously low.

Is this the signal to be sent out to women's cricket? Seriously, is Mithali's 'value' to Indian cricket half than that of the 26th ranked male player?

4. Scientists Find That Breaking Statues Doesn’t Really Help India

Welcome to India 2018. Our politicians have a lot of time. Time to celebrate vandalism. Time to delete celebration of vandalism. Time to argue over whose vandalism was worse.

You’ve got a problem with a statue? Don’t raze it. It’s not going to help you, see?

Started with Lenin, then Periyar, Ambedkar’s always had it bad, and now Gandhi too?

5. Review: ‘Hate Story 4’ Is A Ruthless Death By Drudgery

Skin show, raunchy scenes, lame songs, repeat!

That's Hate Story fourth time around. Vishal Pandya's "vishal" filmography boasts of the previous instalment of the Hate Story franchise. So, things haven't changed much. There is still lots to hate in this one and a story that is conspicuous by its absence.
