As the FTII protest against Gajendra Chauhan’s appointment as the head of the film institute intensifies, the debate goes beyond Chauhan. Students are increasingly getting agitated about the country’s premier film school being turned into the political fiefdom of a single party.

Also looming large is the question if the FTII should continue under government control or should it be privatised.
