Ever since Four More Shots Please’s trailer released, most people have the same question on their minds. Why does it look so similar to the Sonam and Kareena Kapoor-starer Veer Di Wedding?
Whether it’s the posters that came out or the fact that it’s another peek into the lives of four women - on the face of it, the comparisons are inevitable. The Quint spoke to the cast of Four More Shots Please to find out.
“The thing is that there have been so many films that have four boys or three boys celebrating friendship and you don’t really compare. You know, the moment there are four girls, there’s all sorts of comparison which is actually not a bad thing. But actually the story is completely different. Four More Shots Please is a series based on, as the tag line suggest, “Four imperfect women and one perfect friendship”. The four characters come from different walks of life and happen to meet at a bar.
Kirti Kulhari plays the role of a single parent who is also a business woman and hasn’t had sex since the birth of her four-year-old daughter. Sayani Gupta’s character is a workaholic who fancies masturbation because it’s more “efficient than sex”. Bani plays the role of a bisexual woman, who’s looking for “adventure”. Maanvi Gagroo plays a woman who has a tense relationship with her mother. She’s a virgin and has been told to be a perfect bride material since childhood.
“The whole point is that people out there don’t really know what the inner conflicts and issues are and that’s the beauty of the show, where all four of us have our times when we look like “they are having such a great time”. But all of us are dealing with so many things by ourselves, between ourselves.”Kirti Kulhari, Actor
Four More Shots Please is Rangita Pritish Nandy’s creation and the makers include mostly women.
“What’s different in this show is actually the gaze and that’s something that the makers…women who have made the show, written, shot, performed and edited the show, …it really is a big tectonic shifting terms of how women are seen on the screen. How you don’t objectify them if you are showing sex. It’s not about objectification, it’s authentically portraying exactly what happens. That’s why we came on board and collaborated together.”Sayani Gupta
Amazon’s latest original Four More Shots Please will be out on 25 January.
