Aamir Khan rang in his 53rd birthday with wife Kiran Rao and the media on 14 March in Mumbai. Taking a break from the shoot of his upcoming film Thugs of Hindostan, the actor cut cake and interacted with the media on his special day.

Kiran went to receive the actor at the airport unannounced and welcomed him with flowers, a hug and a kiss. And for Aamir, that was his best birthday surprise. The couple cut a cake with the media too.

Asked about his upcoming projects, Aamir revealed that he is working on a Marathi serial around the water scarcity of the state. “This will help raise awareness about the issue among the urban class as well,” he said. He is also looking to work more closely with his Paani Foundation, which is working towards a drought-free Maharashtra. This also means that he wouldn’t be back with his hugely successful television show Satyamev Jayate this year.

“I love what I am doing, and I don’t think I want to be competitive. I don’t want to be compared to the Khans,” he said.

And what would he want to change about himself? “I want to quit smoking and also quit being obsessive about things,” he said.

Aamir, who also just joined Instagram, said that Kiran asked him to join the social media site and so he did. “The first post was for my mother because I am here because of her. And it is my birthday, so I felt that it was just the right post.”

Aamir Khan also shared that Thugs co-star Amitabh Bachchan was the first to wish him on his birthday, and that too on the mic on the sets in Jodhpur. He also shared that Big B is doing fine now - he had fallen ill the day before and a team of doctors had been rushed to treat him from Mumbai.

“It was a dream come true to work with Mr Amitabh Bachchan. In Thugs of Hindostan, you will be seeing him do action after a long time,” Aamir said.
