This chilling CCTV video captures the horrifying moment when a man brutally attacks a woman with a machete 21 times - which she miraculously survives.
The video shows Santhosh Venkatesh, 25, suddenly approaching a woman from behind with a machete in hand and viciously attacking her. The victim – Kumari Venkatswamy, 50 – is speaking to another woman in a corridor when she is struck on the head from behind.
Kumari is seen struggling hard to escape the blows from the machete. But Santhosh stops after a man jumps in to rescue Kumari. Some other locals are later seen catching Santhosh.
The incident happened in Kotilingeshwar temple in Kammasandra, Karnataka on Sunday evening where Kumari serves as an administrator.
Santhosh, an engineer, was immediately handed over to the police after the incident.
Santhosh who hails from same village as Kumari was scorned after his father Venkatesh Appa died three years ago in a heart attack. Santhosh blamed Kumari for obstructing the payment of wages to the now deceased man under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Scheme. The dispute dated back to a few years ago when Kumari was the president of the Kammasandra gram panchayat.
Santhosh’s father Appa was a former member of local municipal body that was headed by Kumari. The two had a dispute over an outstanding bills and Appa apparently died of a heart attack. Santhosh could not stomach it and blamed her for his father’s death. He later took the extreme step in vengeance.Shiv Shankar Reddy, Head Constable at Bethamangla Police Station
Luckily, Kumari, a single woman, escaped with only minor gashes and wounds on her left hand.
