At least 19 kids have died in the past one month due to Japanese encephalitis in Odisha. The disease has spread its tentacles to 18 villages and a special medical team has been appointed to the district hospitals to examine the patients.

The vector-borne virus infection has mainly affected kids aged one to five. Despite medical assistance, hapless villagers have resorted to superstition
