Purulia Girl Demands Loo Before Marriage | Video Report
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachha Bharat’ mission gets resonance from a remote village in Purulia district of West Bengal, where an 18-year-old girl has demanded toilet at her in-law’s house before marriage.
Lipika Mahato, a 12th pass girl from remote Sahanjuri village in Baghmundi area of Purulia has told her father to ensure proper sanitation facility at the in-law’s house before her marriage.
Her marriage has been fixed with a resident of Torang, a remote village in the Maoist-infested Ayodhya Hills area of Purulia.
I was born and brought up in my maternal uncle’s house where there was proper sanitation facility with toilets in the village. There is no sanitation facility in my in-law’s house. I asked my father whether toilet could be built by my in-law’s house before the marriage. My father told that he will ask them to do the same
Lipika was born and brought up at her maternal uncle’s village where there was sanitation facility under the Nirmal Bangla mission of the state government and Swachh Bharat Mission of the Central government. This prompted Lipika to insist on a toilet at her in-law’s house.
The district administration has taken note of Lipika’s courageous step and plans to felicitate her.
I appreciate the courage of the girl; such courage shown by girls will make our Nirmal Bangla mission successful. We are planning to give an award to this girl. This incident from a remote village shows that the state and central goverment awareness programmes are becoming a reality.
