The massive crowd at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Haridwar last week was indicative of the BJP’s strong hold in the city. In the 2012 Assembly polls, the party had won 5 out of 11 seats in the district.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has decided to contest from Haridwar Rural this year, setting the stage for a BJP-Congress showdown.

With BJP’s campaign in full-swing, meet Naresh, one of the ‘driving’ forces behind the campaign. Behind the wheels of a ‘Modi van’ in Haridwar, Naresh earns a little extra and helps his party.

Out of the 70 assembly seats in Uttarakhand, 11 are in Haridwar. Does the road to victory in the state, then, pass through the ‘holy’ city?
