Nokia 6, the first Nokia-branded Android smartphone, was launched on Sunday.
The Android 7.0 Nougat-powered Nokia 6 was unveiled in China by HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the rights to use Nokia's brand on mobile phones.
The phone, aimed at the mid-range smartphone market in China, is the first Nokia smartphone to hit the market after the Finnish-based company was sold to Microsoft in 2014.
Specifications of the Nokia 6
The Nokia 6 runs on Google's Android platform and is manufactured by Foxconn.
The handset runs Android 7.0 Nougat and will come sporting a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass.
The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC and comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The decision by HMD to launch its first Android smartphone into China is a reflection of the desire to meet the real world needs of consumers in different markets around the world... it is a strategically important market.
Nokia 6 is expected to make its debut in India soon.
Earlier, HMD said that India will play a critical role in Nokia's "next phase of journey" as the iconic brand re-enters the fiercely competitive global smartphone market that is currently dominated by Samsung and Apple.
India is a key market for Nokia’s next phase of this journey. It is absolutely important. We want to be successful (in India) and we will also tailor our offerings not only for feature phones, but for smartphones for Indian consumers.
HMD Global had struck a 10-year brand licensing agreement with Nokia for mobile phones and tablets, and is expected to launch a slew of devices globally in the first half of 2017.
