Foldable smartphones have been the talk of the town for sometime now and it seems smartphone makers from around the world are playing catch up to Samsung’s big revelation – its foldable smartphone.
In a recent video released on Xiaomi’s Twitter account, the company has showcased its own foldable phone many are calling as “Xiaomi Flex”.
The interesting bit and what separates Xiaomi’s foldable phone from that of Samsung’s is that it can be folded from both the sides. It’s a double-folding smartphone.
Xiaomi co-founder and president Lin Bin posted a nearly one-minute video on Weibo of the phone and showed how a smartphone can transform into a tablet.
The company hasn’t revealed any specifications about the device, but Lin has said that this is an engineering model. It seems that Xiaomi has made some tweaks in the MIUI interface to make it compatible for the foldable phone. The video is seen supporting Xiaomi’s operating system before it converts from tablet to phone mode.
There are rumours that Huawei and Lenovo too are working on their own foldable smartphones which might be showcased at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2019.
Xiaomi hasn’t revealed when the phone will be available for commercial use, but we can be sure that the Chinese smartphone maker would want to win the race against Samsung in launching the first foldable smartphone in the market.
