If you aren’t keen on high speed 1Gbps internet broadband service from Reliance Jio, then reports suggest there is a new and cheaper plan on the way. Jio’s GigaFiber broadband service was expected to take the country by storm, but unlike its mobile invasion, things have moved at a slower pace till now.

To counter its lack of demand, Jio is offering a cheaper plan costing Rs 2,500 which claims to deliver 50Mbps internet speed to the consumers. This plan is Rs 2,000 cheaper than the 1Gbps offering, which is priced at Rs 4,500 and gives you a bundled router and service package for a specific period.

Coming out with another plan could aid Jio’s objective to hit over 1100 cities in the country over the next couple of years, looking to increase India’s overall penetration of broadband internet.

The new Jio GigaFiber plan was first teased by one Twitter user in the country Preshit Deorukhkar from Mumbai earlier this week.

He further mentioned that the 50Mbps will be offered from a small-size router with single band support, enabling Jio to bring down the cost of security deposit for this plan. Having said that, voice services continue to be bundled with the fresh offering, as mentioned in the aforementioned tweet.

We’re yet to hear about full-scale rollout of the service but hopefully things are likely to take off, now that Jio is adding cheaper plans to its folio. As highlighted before, the telco is shifting its focus towards the broadband operation, and Jio GigaFiber is likely to come bundled with TV service for consumers.

It was pointed out in a Livemint report in April this year that Jio will be offering these as a bundled service for Rs 600 per month, which includes 600 TV channels, landline connection and 100Mbps broadband service.

It’s hardly surprising to hear about Jio’s ambitious plans with its broadband service. The company had showcased its objectives with fiber optics at the Indian Mobile Congress last year, where all of these devices, which includes making video calls via TV were also on display.

Industry experts point out that on an average, a consumer isn’t willing to spend more than Rs 700 for wired internet, but Jio’s bundled offering could appeal to most users, looking for a service that delivers on all fronts.
