Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday, 1 May launched the much anticipated Oculus Go VR Headset at Facebook's F8 developer conference including many new features across all platforms owned by Facebook. The Oculus Go has been launched for $199.

The Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset with a one handed controller. The headset comes with a 2560x1440 pixels 5.5-inch LCD screen, at a time when OLED has pretty much become the standard in every VR headset.

However, it is said that the LCD screen helps in keeping the cost down.

The headset comes with an Android 7.1 Nougat OS which runs on a rather old quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage. It weighs about 470 grams.

One of the exciting features of the Oculus Go is that it can also stream Netflix.

Other features include a built-in speaker, proximity sensor and 3DOF sensors on both the controller and the headset.

Being a standalone device, the Oculus Go does not house a smartphone. To use the Oculus Go, you’ll have to pair with an iOS or Android companion app to connect it to Wi-Fi.

Facebook didn’t reveal which countries will get the Oculus Go in the first phase, but considering its price point and unique features, we’re hopeful of it launching in India.
