Till now, if you wanted to try an app, its features and experience of using it, you had to download them. But probably for the first time, we’re getting an app which works without having to download it. This is a music streaming app, which will not only show you a list of songs but play them as well.
We’re talking about Gaana, owned by Times Internet, which competes with other platforms like Amazon Prime Music and Spotify among others in the country.
With more streaming platforms launching in the country, it seems Gaana is looking to attract users by asking them to get a pre-download experience of its app.
The app, available on Google Play Store has a new option, ‘Try Now’ and by clicking it, you can experience how the app will feel after you’ve downloaded it.
According to Gaana, the nifty 2.5 MB size of the instant app is just 15% of the main app, makes it the perfect option for those using entry-level smartphones with limited internet availability. You get to play select tracks in the ‘shuffle’ format, which opens up the main music player, just like it would on the app.
The prime objective behind introducing this first-of-kind feature is to let more users to try the platform. It’s like going to a retail store, trying out a shirt or jeans before buying it. But unlike paying for the shirt you’ve bought, the music app can be downloaded for free, which caters to more features, and tracks, making it heavier in process.
This is an interesting way of reaching out to the consumers, one that doesn’t take a lot of space on their phone storage.
Having said that, it remains to be seen if Gaana manages to make use of this unique feature and get more users aboard its platform, at a time when its competition has come out with ‘Lite’ version apps to work on basic devices and network.
