We know it’s early days to be talking about a new JioPhone hitting the market, but that’s exactly what’s happening. A little bird told me that the new JioPhone is going to be coming with a 5-inch touchscreen and Android Go on-board.
It is safe to assume that the upcoming JioPhone could be launched at the company’s annual general meeting, which it usually hosts in June-July.
There hasn’t been any official statement released by Jio so we recommend our readers to take everything we say with a pinch a salt.
A report by GSMArena also said that the new JioPhone 3 will come with a 5-inch touchscreen and will support 2GB of RAM. It is also rumoured that the phone will offer 64GB of on-board storage with an option to expand via a microSD card.
Since this is not the “powerful hardware” category, we feel it’s enough to offer support for Android Go which is likely to be the case. Though, it will be interesting to see how Jio takes this move forward.
In terms of the camera, we can expect the next JioPhone to come with a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel shooter on the front.
The boost in the hardware department means that we can see a rise in the price of the device and expect it to be around Rs 4,500 in the Indian market. This is Rs 1,500 more than the JioPhone 2.
Since it’s clear that Jio will offer support for only the Jio SIM, it is likely that Jio will offer a suite of applications and offers with the device like it did with the phone’s last iteration.
