Google is finally going head-to-head with Apple in the mobile space with its Google Pixel smartphone. Priced starting from Rs 57,000, the phone is now available for pre-order in the Indian market.
The phone will also be sold through retailers like Reliance Digital and Croma, apart from Flipkart. You can also get discounts up to Rs 27,000 by exchanging your current phone to buy either of the Pixel variants.
At these price points, Google will have a tough time convincing people (especially the iPhone clan) to make the switch.
It will be interesting to see if Google manages to replicate Apple’s efficient model of providing quick time software upgrades every year, to all its users in the world. This is also Google’s first phone to come with built-in Google Assistant feature, which debuted with the Allo messaging app this month.
One thing that could work in Google’s favour is the unforeseen demise of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 this year, and playing at a similar price point, Pixel could make the most of it.
Also, Google says that Nougat and the future Android upgrades will hit Pixel phones much sooner than other Android devices. This model has worked out quite well for them with the Nexus range over the years, but with Pixel we expect better.
For Rs 57,000 you get the Pixel phone 32GB variant. Even though Google claims that via DxOMark, the phone’s camera is the best in the business right now. There’s just so much to figure out about the product in the coming weeks.
