Apple is now officially on Twitter.

On Friday morning, Apple’s Twitter account was verified – prompting users to follow the long-dormant account. Apple was probably waiting for the blue tick, as the Twitter handle has been around since September 2011.

However, Apple being Apple, there’s not a single tweet from the iPhone makers yet. Moreover, they don’t follow a single account, including Apple CEO Tim Cook’s.

That hasn’t deterred people from following the account in hordes with every passing second. The number has already crossed 57,000.

The timing, however, couldn’t be more apt. Next week, Apple is slated to launch iPhone 7 and its other models in a special event. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman wonders if the Twitter handle will be used to tweet live updates from the event.
