Nokia 9 has finally launched in the Indian market. The company’s latest Nokia phone gets not two, nor three but five cameras at the back, which shows up like a piece of jigsaw puzzle waiting to be joined together.

The phone has been priced at Rs 49,999 which is more than the price announced during its official debut at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.

Nokia’s bold debut comes at a time when Oppo showed us a new technology with the Reno 10X Zoom that delivers 10x lossless zoom on the rear cameras.

Nokia 9 gets a dated design footprint, simply because the phone has gone through numerous iterations at the prototype stage, which has taken a couple of years to pull off.

Hence, the 18:9 ratio screen and a big-size chin at the bottom, even though you get a 5.99-inch, 2960x1440 pixels pOLED screen, powered by Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB RAM. There’s 128GB storage on offer, which is further expandable, thankfully.

Considering the OnePlus 7 Pro powered by Snapdragon 855 is selling for Rs 48,999 it would be hard for buyers to see value in getting the Nokia 9 Pureview, unless they’re buying it for the camera prowess.

This might just be a phone but who’re we kidding, five cameras is bound to get everyone intrigued and Nokia tried its best to explain and justify the use of this setup.

The Nokia 9 carries three monochromatic lens and two RGB lens at the back, all offered f/1.8 aperture and yes, all of them are Zeiss Optics certified.

Nokia has made this device, purely with still photography on its mind and in its focus, which is why it supports RAW and DNG formats, for the pros.

Which is why, the use optical image stabilization (OIS) has been limited to the main sensor, and as strange it might sound, Nokia has stayed away from using either of ultra-wide or a telephoto lens.

In terms of its mechanism, the company has claimed that all the five cameras are used while clicking a picture and all the images are then fused together, with little help from computational photography. For this, Nokia has worked with Qualcomm to make sure that the full potential of Snapdragon 845 is put into use.

Let’s be honest, the Nokia 9 is no head turner and we’re fine with that, especially if the cameras produce results similar to that of the previous generation Nokia Pureview cameras, namely the Nokia 808 and Lumia 1020.

It does get an in-display fingerprint, supports USB Type C 3.1 and IP 67 adds much needed durability to the device. It remains to be seen if the brand can find takers for the phone, that too at this price.
