Samsung’s position in the mid-range and sub Rs 50,000 segment in India has been badly hit by Xiaomi and OnePlus over the past few years. The South Korean giant is bringing itself back into the fold with a new set of devices, and the latest to join its portfolio is the A80 launched on Wednesday.

While an official confirmation on India availability and price of the phone is still awaited, sources told IANS that the phone will be priced below Rs 50,000 for the Indian market and it is "most likely" to be launched in the country next month.

At this price, the A80 will compete with OnePlus and even Google, which has the Pixel 2 selling in this price bracket.

The Galaxy A80 gets a rotating triple camera setup and a full-screen display. When users select the selfie mode in the camera app, the three cameras automatically pop-up from the back of the phone and rotate, the company mentioned.

It means that the same triple sensors – a 48MP primary camera + 8MP sensor for 123 degree ultra wide angle in addition to another 3D depth sensor – can work both as the user’s primary camera as well as the selfie camera.

The 3D depth camera offers live focus videos by scanning objects for measurement and depth. The rotating feature allows everyone to have the experience of six camera lenses, while the phone has just three.

The pop-up feature which is becoming increasingly common in smartphones now makes sure that the front sensors do not take up any space on the screen. Brands like Vivo and Oppo were the first to adopt the technology and offer it on products priced below Rs 30,000 in the country.

In terms of basic features, the Galaxy A80 gets a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ Super AMOLED screen, powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 730G processor. The hardware is paired with an 8GB RAM and 128GB for storage, which is non-expandable.

It is running on Android 9.0 Pie based One UI software, which was recently rolled out to Samsung’s Galaxy S and Note series.

The other essentials on the Galaxy A80 are 3,700 mAh battery with support for 25W charging. The phone’s glass body is protected by Corning Gorilla 6 glass, while the frame is made of metal. This is another phone to come with in-fingerprint scanner that’s delivered mixed results as of now.
