OPPO’s top-of-the-line A series has dominated the budget smartphone scene for quite some time now, but its latest offering A7 has hit the ball out of the park. The phone is high on design and its killer specs are certainly giving competitors a run for their money.
The OPPO A7’s starting price point is almost the same as that of Samsung Galaxy J8. Now you might be wondering, given a choice, which one to buy? Don’t worry, we’re here to help you out. Design
It’s the era of smartphones with a notch on the display. The notch makes the device more appealing, you see. Guess, the Galaxy J8 didn’t get the memo. The OPPO A7, however, takes the notch game to the next level with its water-drop screen and sleek bezel. In fact, it’s the first ever mid-range smartphone with a water-drop screen. At the back, the OPPO A7 has a glossy finish with a 3D-ish texture which comes as a breath of fresh air. This surely makes it one of the best looking smartphones in the mid-range segment. Samsung Galaxy J8, on the other hand, has a metal unibody with a matte finish which makes it appear a little old school.
Display
Samsung Galaxy J8 comes with a 6-inch Super AMOLED display. It has a resolution of 720 x 1480 and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Compare this to OPPO A7’s impressive 6.2-inch water-drop screen, aspect ratio of 19:9 and 720 x 1520 screen resolution and you will see a marked difference. What further strengthens OPPO’s case is its good sunlight legibility and really vibrant colours. It’s safe to say that OPPO A7 offers you a delightful video viewing experience.
Camera
Let’s talk about the one thing everyone wants to know about - the camera. Both phones have a dual camera set-up. While the Galaxy J8 is equipped with a 16 MP and 5 MP dual camera, the OPPO A7 comes with 13 MP + 2 MP sensors. It’s impressive to see that both cameras perform equally well even though the set-up varies in both the devices.
The real game changer, however, is the selfie snapper of the OPPO A7. Both phones come with a 16 MP front camera, but OPPO A7 wins the selfie game. A7’s camera delivers better results in terms of colour, sharpness and clarity. You can even get a portrait selfie from the front camera with a good bokeh effect and sharp edge detection.
Battery
The Galaxy J8 comes with a 3,200 mAh battery, while the OPPO A7’s battery capacity is significantly higher at 4,230 mAh. After a full charge, it will last you nearly a day and a half. Now that’s quite something.
