Huawei has made a name for itself in the international smartphone market but when it comes to India, it still has a lot of ground to cover. The flagship department wasn’t always Huawei’s strongest suit but recently it has learned from its mistakes after disasters like the Huawei P9.

I thought the Huawei P20 Pro was a master stroke but the company lost its way, pricing the phone higher than expected, which ensured lukewarm response for the product.

Now, Huawei is back with the Huawei Nova 3 and is looking to pit it in the sub Rs 35,000 category. Does the market really need another Huawei flagship or is this another one of those phones that’ll get lost in the crowd.

We’ll find out the answer to that in our review later but here’s a quick look at the new Huawei Nova 3.

The design! Huawei, you have made a good phone that fits well in the hand but you should have gone with some other colour combination. This is just too... Too much!

There are shades of blue and purple on a reflective panel at the back which looks even worse with fingerprints on it. Else, the phone has been designed well. Oh, BTW, Huawei is calling this colour Iris Purple.

The display is very vibrant and good to look at. No complains here. Caught up with a couple of shows and played a few games on it. Performs equally well under any kind of light. The 83 percent screen-to-body ratio really helps.

At the helm of it all, is a powerful Kirin 970 octa-core processor coupled with 6GB of RAM. The phone is running on Android 8.1 Oreo on top of Huawei’s own Emotion UI. Despite the fact that Huawei has made the interface much cleaner than before, there’s still a lot of work to be done. I guess people would still go for the pure Android experience.

The phone comes with two storage options being 64GB and 128GB and you can expand storage further.

There is something called AI gallery that the Nova 3 has, which automatically analyses the phone’s gallery and helps you search the images based on different preferences. Eg. If you want to search pictures from Gurgaon, you can easily do that by searching images from Gurgaon in your gallery. Something that Google Photos already offers.

The company has also introduced something called GPU Turbo which enahnces the CPUs capability by 60 percent and also saves the battery at the same time. This might help for all those PUBG gamers.

The Nova 3 also introduces 3D surround sound for a rich and immersive audio experience. It also comes with a face unlock feature that’s backed by an IR emitter to unlock the phone even in total darkness.

The back of the phone houses a 16+24-megapixel camera setup that comes with AI features. With the AI feature, Huawei claims that the user can easily capture vivid and good quality images without the hassle of understanding the aesthetics of photography.

The Huawei double lens shooter analyses more than 500 samples and then renders the picture you have clicked.

And how can I forget, the Nova 3 too has 3D animated emojis to offer.

On the flipside, it’s robbing the user from using their own creativity.

The front also houses dual 24+2-megapixel camera for selfies. It works on an AI engine as well, that uses about 9 different scenarios and then takes the picture. It also offers HDR Pro mode on the front camera.

The Huawei Nova 3 comes with a 3750mAh battery that supports fast charging.

This is a powerful statement by Huawei and they really mean business with this phone. It’s loaded up to its neck and definitely will appeal to a certain segment of the crowd who love blingy phones!

This is serious competition for the likes of the OnePlus 6 and with all those features packed, I can see Huawei’s fanbase growing in the months to come.
